Scripteth Dame Nora: "What do you do when you've got too many projects in progress already and even more in the planning stages, and anyway it's hotter than hell and you can feel the life melting right out of you?" Monday, July 31st, 2006 7:24pm. *Grin* --Gruffudd --Gruffudd

The second method looks a bit like what I did to make a smocked apron (see link above). It might be a pain to do on slippery silk though...

You are a bad influence on my husband! If you're not careful, the Viking's going to get a plucked chicken butt hat for his next birthday. ;)

It looks great! I too confess to secretly liking Microspun. I'm making some preemie hats with it to donate to the NICU at Fair Oaks. Sooo sooffft! I made a hat for Tommy with some Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino (the pattern was from an issue of Interweave Knits) and it was a little big on him when he was first born, but he quickly grew into it. Now it's too small. ;-)

I think the fiber gods will forgive the use of acrylic once in a while. Sometimes it IS the right "fiber".

I believe there is a pattern for knee stockings in Melanie Falick's Handknit Holidays. Perhaps you could use that as a basis for your sock project? I admit to not having seen the pattern in question though.

The cap is lovely. I love the color scheme, and consider it more restrained than truly melancholy.

Coffee grounds repel snails and slugs, eh? I think my hostas will soon be enjoying regular doses of caffeine. Thanks for the tip!
